A day in the life of Lynn, a full-time carer in Paisley

I'll get up at...

3 am to go check husband's catheter working (I care for him) back up at 6.30 to 7 am

And then I...

Check my husband is ok - see if night bag needs emptied, bring him tea/toast so he can take painkillers. Then I get ready. On IWD I'll get him ready (help him dress, wash, check dressing) a bit earlier as I'm going out to our local Carers Centre.

My day will consist of...

Getting medication out, tidying house, cooking, helping my husband eg cutting stoma bags, checking leg bag. I work on a very part time basis, so I often do a couple of hours work between 8-10. Today I'll also be speaking at my local Carers Centre as part of benefits training for Carers.

I'll look after...

My husband. I care for him for more than 35 hours per week. I'll also check on my mum who is caring for her husband.

Other things I'll do in the day are...

Cooking, shopping, picking up prescriptions.

I'll go to bed after...

10 pm - getting my husband to bed, putting on night bag, checking/changing dressings and tidying up.
