A day in the life of Jane, full-time mum in Edinburgh

What will you be doing between 6am and 7am?

Wake at 6.45am. Empty dishwasher

What will you be doing between 7am and 8am?

Make 4 breakfasts, 4packed lunches and snacks. Feed Guinea pig, take dogs for toilet. Any school admin/money forgotten from previous night. Take a shower. Clear away breakfast.

What will you be doing between 8am and 9am?

Daughter's long hair. Supervise teeth cleaning. Put first load of laundry on. Get dressed. Take children to school.

What will you be doing between 9am and 10am?

Walk home from school, feed dogs, have breakfast, household admin, phone calls.

What will you be doing between 10am and 11am?

Walk dogs

What will you be doing between 11am and 12pm?

Walk dogs, unload laundry and put it to dry, load 2nd lot of laundry, any cleaning/tidying tasks.

What will you be doing between 12pm and 1pm?

Finish cleaning/tidying, travel to school (ex teacher) take group of 20 children for creative problem solving (unpaid).

What will you be doing between 1pm and 2pm?

Teaching

What will you be doing between 2pm and 3pm?

Teaching

What will you be doing between 3pm and 4pm?

Meeting to discuss dyslexic child,

What will you be doing between 4pm and 5pm?

Travel home, provide snacks for children. Put out second laundry to dry. Take child to orchestra practice

What will you be doing between 5pm and 6pm?

Take different child to sewing class. Walk dogs while waiting for children to finish class.

What will you be doing between 6pm and 7pm?

Collect child from orchestra, collect child from sewing, return home. Cook tea.

What will you be doing between 7pm and 8pm?

Finish tea. Feed dogs. Clear away dishes. Help with homework/music practice.

What will you be doing between 8pm and 9pm?

Help with homework/music practice. Start bedtime routine with 2 younger children, warm milk, story, teeth bed.

What will you be doing between 9pm and 10pm?

Check homework/admin for 2 older children, tidy away anything left out. Remind older children to go to bed

What will you be doing between 10pm and 11pm?

Watch news, cup of tea, speak to husband on phone if he is away from home (usually he is!) Go to bed.

What will you be doing between 11pm and 12pm?

Sleeping
