A day in the life of Amy, Head of Policy at Alzheimer Scotland in Edinburgh

Amy

What will you be doing between 4am and 5am?

Waking up annoyingly soon before the alarm goes off, remembering something that I haven't done or stocked up on

What will you be doing between 5am and 6am?

Determinedly sleeping

What will you be doing between 6am and 7am?

Alarm goes off at half six. I'm bad at getting up so snooze for half an hour.

What will you be doing between 7am and 8am?

Shower, decide what to wear, dress, makeup, make sure everything is in the right bags. Did I remember to charge my work phone?

What will you be doing between 8am and 9am?

Sitting on a bus heading into the office, doing work emails before the day officially starts because I still feel the need to prove I'm keen.

What will you be doing between 9am and 10am?

More emails, then head across town to meeting number 1

What will you be doing between 10am and 11am?

Chairing SCVO's policy committee - my organisation have been persuaded that this is a good use of my time :-)

What will you be doing between 11am and 12pm?

Still chairing my meeting

What will you be doing between 12pm and 1pm?

Meeting finishes - we're trialling shorter meetings to try to make it easier for people to attend, it used to be a fiull half day.

What will you be doing between 1pm and 2pm?

Find somewhere I can get something to eat and do more emails and phone calls. My job involves supporting people across my organisation as well as a lot of external liaison.

What will you be doing between 2pm and 3pm?

Meeting number 2 - same location as the morning, thankfully.

What will you be doing between 3pm and 4pm?

Meeting ends - do I go back to the office or not? Probably yes...

What will you be doing between 4pm and 5pm?

Back in the office catching up, having been out for the day.

What will you be doing between 5pm and 6pm?

Head back across town for a parliamentary reception. In my job, evening and weekend work is regular. I take TOIL for weekends but I'm bad at taking it for evenings.

What will you be doing between 6pm and 7pm?

How early can I leave this parliament event? Probably about 7.

What will you be doing between 7pm and 8pm?

Am I still up for going to the gym? Let's say 'yes' to that!

What will you be doing between 8pm and 9pm?

Trying to get to the end of my workout and get home. Call my partner - find out he's had his tea already. Fair enough, I'm late back, but I miss us sitting down together.

What will you be doing between 9pm and 10pm?

A hasty late tea - and maybe phone my mum, who will gently chastise me for eating so late.

What will you be doing between 10pm and 11pm?

I try to be in bed for 10:30...
