a day in the life of a radio producer

What will you be doing between 6am and 7am?

Waking up, preparing lunch, getting showered, dressed and apply make-up. I will hang washing if I have time.

What will you be doing between 7am and 8am?

I will grab breakfast on the go and drive to work to be ready at my desk for 7:45am

What will you be doing between 8am and 9am?

I will be reading emails that need urgent replies and checking our programme folder for content, for personal questions and for urgent replies. I will go through the morning papers selecting things that would be appropriate for our programme.

What will you be doing between 9am and 10am?

I will be monitoring the texts that come into the programme and selecting the most appropriate to be read out on air. I will edit those to make them appropriate to be read aloud and passed on to the presenter to compliment the programme.

What will you be doing between 10am and 11am?

I will respond to less urgent emails that have come through during the hours I was not by my emails and I will start to make contact with those I saw in the morning papers. I look after the diary for the programme and I book stand alone interviews throughout the weeks not on the day to day.

What will you be doing between 11am and 12pm?

I will be following up long-standing bids with big named people in Scotland and then I will respond to any replies to my morning emails.

What will you be doing between 12pm and 1pm?

We will debrief the programme and I will note any interviews that were to be followed up from that mornings programmes. I will also monitor the news diary to see if there are specific things we should be picking up on.

What will you be doing between 1pm and 2pm?

I will have a lunch that I prepared that morning and usually a walk along the Clyde for some fresh air.

What will you be doing between 2pm and 3pm?

I will attend meetings with other departments about content for my department and I work on briefs for those already booked in the calendar.

What will you be doing between 3pm and 4pm?

Continue to answer emails, complete basic admin and work on social media content for the programme.

What will you be doing between 4pm and 5pm?

I will leave work and drive home via the supermarket/run errands / pick up prescriptions etc.

What will you be doing between 5pm and 6pm?

I will prepare veg/food for dinner and put on a washing load. I will then do some basic housework and watch News/TV

What will you be doing between 6pm and 7pm?

Finishing dinner prep, hanging washing and getting things organised for work the next day.

What will you be doing between 7pm and 8pm?

I will either meet with friends for the cinema, meet my boyfriend or chill out at home with my flatmates.

What will you be doing between 8pm and 9pm?

Either watch a film or mini series that I am following / read books which have been allocated from book club. (if not at the cinema) I will also do basic life admin duties / finances / shop online. I will also be checking up on online news for that day.

What will you be doing between 9pm and 10pm?

Shower, put another wash on and settle down before bed checking social media / news outlets for emerging / breaking stories or stories relevant to my job in Radio.

What will you be doing between 10pm and 11pm?

I will normally read in bed from 10pm onwards, most likely sleeping before 10:30/1045pm

What will you be doing between 11pm and 12pm?

Sleeping.
